Why are X-sense dangerous?
Reasons why X-sense seems dangerous include:
- Is it suspicious because it’s made in China?
- Are you worried about information leaks?
- Backdoor/remote control?
- Poor quality and easily broken?
However, none of these are major concerns.
I’ve been using X-sense for three years, and I’ll also explain my impressions of using X-sense from 2022 in the related reviews.
Is it suspicious because it’s made in China?
Some people have negative feelings toward China due to political ties, so I think they are feeling uneasy.
However, if we look around, most products are already made in China or partially made in China, and even iPhones and car manufacturers have some products made in China.
While this may cause some anxiety from a political perspective, I believe there are many people who are satisfied with the performance of Chinese products and use them.
Are you worried about information leaks?
Recently, we have seen a number of cases of information leaks caused by cyber terrorism, with the purpose of many of these being to obtain customer lists or information on new technologies .
X-sense has not publicly disclosed detailed technical specifics about its cloud infrastructure (e.g., whether it uses Amazon Web Services (AWS) or other providers). However, Many companies producing smart home devices (like smoke detectors or alarms) rely on third-party cloud providers such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure for scalability, security, and global accessibility.
X-sense devices often integrate with platforms like Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, which are tightly linked to their respective cloud ecosystems. This could suggest AWS or Google Cloud involvement, but it’s not definitive proof.
Backdoor/remote control?
A few years ago, there was talk of Chinese products being equipped with backdoors that could be remotely controlled in the event of an emergency.
A backdoor is a hidden entrance for unauthorized access to a computer or network system.
The sources of rumors that backdoors have been installed in telecommunications equipment manufacturer Huawei and surveillance camera manufacturers came from Western countries.
However, our investigation did not find any published information that provided evidence of a backdoor. I’m a little suspicious of conspiracy theories, but I don’t think you need to think too much about the existence of backdoors.
Poor quality and easily broken?
Chinese-made home appliances are now used all over the world, and it is important to acknowledge that their quality is guaranteed .
While it is possible to get defective products from lesser known Chinese brands , there are many high quality products made in China by major brands .
